Wecht on 'CSI'-type shows
What's the effect of TV shows like "CSI" and "Law and Order" on jurors? Some attorneys worry they give jurors unreasonably high expectations of the evidence they see in court. The American Bar Association Journal published an article last year entitled "Evidence Piles Up Against CSI." Dr. Wecht commented on the issue.
"While 'CSI'-type shows are entertaining, they tend to embellish and exaggerate the science, ignore actual time lines for testing, and raise expectations of the public, law enforcement and judicial system to an extremely absurd and totally unrealistic level," wrote Dr. Wecht.
